Erik Fremstad: Unnatural Selection

Unnatural Selection is a series of six paintings—a bison, wolf, grizzly bear, pollinators, sea turtle, and polar bear—created by artist Erik Fremstad between 2018 and 2023. Each large-scale portrait details the devastation to the North American wildlife species. In his process, Fremstad uses words to form the outline of the animals, first in pencil and then in ink, including biological information, literary references, drawings of historical photos and maps, to illustrate the full perspective of the issues threatening each species.

Hot Shop Hot Nights with Adeye Jean-Baptiste

This week’s artist in residence at the Hilltop Glass Studio, Adeye Jean-Baptiste, will set up shop in the Hot Shop creating their own works, sharing with students and collaborating with Hilltop Artists. On Hot Shop Hot Nights the community is invited to watch the artists engaged in their craft.
Adeye Jean-Baptiste is a recent graduate of Alfred University, where they received their BFA. Their work focuses on vehicular movement from the perspective of those who are non-native to a given space or place.

Poetry in the Gardens

From March through the end of summer, visitors to Lakewold Gardens can hear the poets read the selected works as they wander the gardens by scanning QR codes on signs that have been intentionally placed throughout the property. A map of the sign locations is available at admissions.
