Something sweet is happening on Ruston Way. Anyone with a love of Italian pastries, gelato and freshly baked focaccia bread will want to check out one of Tacoma’s newest cafés: Dolce Si, Italian for “sweet you.” The Sicilian bakery café opened its doors in November 2015 at Point Ruston, directly below the Copperline Apartments. With sweeping views of Commencement Bay, Dolce Si entices guests to stay and enjoy the ambiance while sampling its incredible array of authentic Italian fare.
With the South Sound’s first dedicated Sicilian bakery, owners Steve and Elisabetta O’Shea strive to provide an authentic experience. Born and raised in Sicily, Elisabetta met Steve while he was stationed in Italy during his time with the Navy. After moving to Washington in 2003, Elisabetta set her sights on culinary school. She graduated from South Seattle Community College in 2007 and began envisioning plans for Dolce Si.
From the moment you walk through the door, you feel as though you have been transported to an upscale café in the heart of Sicily. You are warmly greeted by friendly baristas, meticulously trained in crafting true espresso beverages, something almost unheard of since corporate coffee giants began to dominate the scene. Besides espresso, Dolce Si offers an assortment of both sweet and savory treats, wine and more.
Interior design details, such as imported handmade ceramic table tops and hand-painted tiles trimming the doorways, were carefully selected to lend an old-world feel. The walls are painted in a rich gold color and adorned with shelves displaying additional ceramic art for sale.
If you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth or are simply craving a real shot of espresso, stop by Dolce Si for an experience like none other. The bakery café also caters events such as weddings, graduations and family functions.
